Serenity Garden at Maude Price Elementary School

A student-led

design process

made possible by parents and volunteers

students selection native plants for their garden

Plant Placement Mapping

while students had their creativity hats on, parents and community members volunteered before and afterschool and on weekends to prepare the garden for the planting day.

  • Four 20ft x 10ft raised garden beds disassembled, resized, refurbished and re-installed.

  • 100+ ft of decomposed granite & landscaping fabric removed

  • Tree trunks and logs salvaged from another school

  • Mulch, compost, river rock and boulders placed

Plant Pallet Selection

Seeds of Power Garden Club students (Grade 2- 5) collaborated in small groups to discuss and curate native plants for the garden. Plant cards provided basic size and sunlight information along with a fun fact about each plant and types of wildlife supported.

Cuttings of various plants were brought in to support the design activity.

Garden club students worked in small groups to design 3 plant layouts on a layout plant which were used to inform the final garden design.

Sage Hill and Blue Eyed Grass Meadow were common trends between student groups.
